Imminent Threat

Movie Review by Everyday Activist X CalgaryMovies.com

This documentary won a few awards in the US; however, if you’ve watched the news in the past 15 years through a Canadian feed, most of what’s presented in Imminent Threat about the US is painfully obvious. Yes, presidents have been involved in beating up smaller countries to sell guns and gain access to oil reserves. Yes, they broke campaign promises. Yes, they gladly pass laws in order to violate the privacy of ordinary citizens and when they are caught going overboard, they arrest those who highlight the problem. Yes, innocent people have been killed due to paranoia.

Nothing new was brought to the discussion about the “war on terror” or the violation of privacy. Part of the problem might be that I’m quite knowledgeable about these issues already. The only neat idea presented towards the end was that people on opposite sides of the political spectrum can come together to vote on particular issues rather than party lines. If the NRA can play nice with others, a better world is possible.

While I have better things to do on a Saturday night, if you would like to watch all 70 minutes of Imminent Threat, it’s playing at River Park Church at on November 21st, 2015 @ 8:00 PM as part of the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival 2015.
